Pee-Wee Basketball Tournament

The Calhoun Rural Fire Association will be hosting it’s annual Pee-Wee Basketball Tournament this week. The tournament begins tonight, Monday March 26th 2012 at 5:30 P.M.  We will be welcoming 16 teams in our tournament this year which will end Friday March 30th 2012.

The Calhoun Rural Fire Association has been hosting the annual tournament for several years as a means to raise funds to help with the costs of the 100% Volunteer fire department.  The tournament is being held at the Calhoun Gymnasium located off of S. College St. next to the school.  We invite everyone to attend and watch all of the children play in the tournament. Admissions are as follows: $1.00 per Child and $2.00 per Adult   Concessions are available during the tournament.


 

Difficulty Breathing

Rescue 5 responded to the 200 block of N. Maple St. to a female patient having difficulty breathing.  The patient was later taken by GVMH Unit 16 to the ER.

Rescue 5 responded to the 200 block of N. Maple for an alarm of a female patient having difficulty breathing.  The patient later refused transport by GVMH Unit 17.

Controlled Burn

Brush Truck 4 responded to the 500 block of N. Maple St. for a request to be on standby for a controlled burn. No further actions taken.

Good Intent Call

Brush Truck 4 responded to the 700 block of NE 950 RD to an alarm of a natural cover fire started by a possible arsonist. Upon arrival on scene firefighters began to battle the fire, but shortly thereafter the property manager arrived on scene to report that the fire was a prescribed burn. No further action taken.

Passenger Vehicle Fire

Engine 3 responded to the intersection of NE 701 RD and NE 950 RD to an alarm of a passenger vehicle that is on fire. Upon arrival on scene firefighters observed a passenger vehicle approximately 100 yards into a field with no smoke or fire showing. Upon further investigation it was determined that the hot engine caught the grass underneath of the vehicle on fire but no damage was reported to the vehicle.

Knee Injury

Rescue 5 responded to the 1100 block of NE 300 RD to an alarm of an elderly female patient whom fell and injured her knee. First Responders assisted EMS with assessing and loading the patent. Windsor Medic 1 later transported the patient to GVMH for further treatment.

Natural Cover Fire

Brush Truck 4 and Rescue 5 responded to the 900 block of NE 701 RD to an alarm of a natural cover fire. Firefighters battled the fire for approximately 3 hours and a total of approximately 40 acres burned.

Investigation

Rescue 5 responded to the 700 block of NE 901 RD to an alarm of a possible natural cover fire. Firefighters investigated the area and found no natural cover fire. It is believed that caller saw the fire at a nearby controlled burn. No further action taken.

Lift Assistance

Rescue 5 responded to the 400 block of N. Maple St. to an alarm of a patient whom had fallen and needed assistance up. First Responder’s found the patient on the floor and assisted him back to bed. No injuries noted.
